Fly from Bangkok, Delhi, Calcutta, or Kathmandu to Paro to begin your introductory tour of Bhutan Fly into Paro, gateway to the Kingdom of Bhutan. Begin in Thimphu, touring the capital's sites. Visit Simthoka Dzong, the oldest in Thimphu, then drive through rhododendron and magnolia forests to Tongsa, where the present dynasty has its roots. On a clear day, this journey offers sublime views of 7000-meter snow peaks. Continue to Punakha, for a day of touring the valley. Return to Paro, where you will visit Ta Dzong, housing superb antiquities. Drive to Taktsang viewpoint, which offers breathtaking views of the surrounding granite cliffs and valley.
