Fly from Bangkok, Delhi, Calcutta, or Kathmandu to Paro to begin your introductory tour of Bhutan. Spend a week touring Bhutan's cultural and natural highlights. Spend a full day touring this delightfully relaxed capital, including the artisan's quarter where Bhutan's traditional arts of weaving, painting, and carving still thrive. Drive to Tongsa, via the stunning Dochula Pass, with its sweeping views of the eastern Himalaya. Drive through lush forests, then explore the Tongsa Valley. The valley is lovely and steeped in historical importance. Travel to Gangtay, home of the country's largest Nyingma monastery. This is the most ancient and mystical form of Tibetan Buddhism, and the most popular in Bhutan. This sweeping valley is also the breeding site and winter home of rare black necked cranes. Drive to Paro, via the Punakha Valley. Spend two nights in Paro, touring the valley's many lovely temples and dzongs. Visit Taktsang, Drukgyal, and Ta Dzong.
Day 1: Fly to- Paro, visit National Museum and drive after lunch to Thimphu for two nights;
Day 2: Tour Thimphu;
Day 3: Drive to Tongsa, via Wangdiphrodang;
Day 4: Tour Tongsa & Phobjika valleys;
Day 5: Drive to Punakha Valley, then return to Paro for two nights;
Day 6: Morning hike to Taktsang, afternoon tour Ta Dzong;
Day 7: Transfer to airport for flight to home.
