Paro, Tongsa, Bumthang (Jakar), Gangtay, Thimphu

This ten-day program takes you to a broad spectrum of Bhutan's many attractions. Spend a night in Paro before driving to Tongsa, the magnificent heartland of Bhutan's current dynasty. Drive to the Bumthang Valley, considered by many to be one of Bhutan's most beautiful regions. Its exceptional natural splendor is complemented by the wealth of monasteries and temples that have been built in this land of legends. Spend three nights here exploring the region and learning of its many colorful legends. Drive to Phobjika Valley to visit Gangtay monastery and the surrounding area that is a crucial breeding site for rare birds. After a night here, drive to Punakha en route to Thimphu, where you will spend two nights touring Bhutan's easy-going capital. Tour the temples and markets that retain their unique character, in blissful contrast to so many modern capitals. Drive to Paro for a final day of touring before flying home.

Day 1: Fly to Paro, visit Ta Dzong and drive to Thimphu after lunch for night halt;
Day 2: Drive to Tongsa, via Wangdiphrodang;
Day 3: Visit Ta Dzong, then drive to Jakar, in the Bumthang valley, tour area;
Day 4: Day hike via Pesiling and Kunzandra monasteries;
Day 5: Full day excursion to Ura valley;
Day 6: Drive to Phobjika, visit Gangtay monastery;
Day 7: Drive to Punakha valley, then Thimphu, transfer to hotel for two nights;
Day 8: Full day tour of Thimphu;
Day 9: Drive to Paro, visit Taktsang and Ta Dzong;
Day 10: Transfer to airport for departure flight to home.
